EPISTEMOLOGY (1)

Part One
1. Descartes’ Epistemology
2. The Standard Analysis
3. The Problem of Induction
4. A Priori Justification and Knowledge
5. Agrippa’s Trilemma
6. Experience and Reality
7. Immediate Experience
8. Foundationalism & Coherentism

Part Two
9. The Problem of the Basis
10. Internalism and Externalism
11. Evidence and Entitlement
12. Knowledge in Context
13. Seeing and Knowing
14. Scepticism and Epistemic Priority
15. Is Knowledge Contextual?
16. Can Skepticism Be Refurted?

Lectures and discussions.

One major difference between philosophy and other disciplines is that, while the latter studies particular areas of knowledge, the former focuses on human knowledge as a whole. Epistemology is concerned with the essence, origins, limits, and structures of knowledge. We will discuss the following topics:

Part One
1. Descartes’ Epistemology
2. The Standard Analysis
3. The Problem of Induction
4. A Priori Justification and Knowledge
5. Agrippa’s Trilemma
6. Experience and Reality
7. Immediate Experience
8. Foundationalism & Coherentism

Part Two
9. The Problem of the Basis
10. Internalism and Externalism
11. Evidence and Entitlement
12. Knowledge in Context
13. Seeing and Knowing
14. Scepticism and Epistemic Priority
15. Is Knowledge Contextual?
16. Can Skepticism Be Refurted?

the mv above made me think of the end summer of 2006. it may be the most exhilarant time of mine. that's a period wherein i drove my little sister to the secondary school in the mornings. the boring driving without conversation between us, i turn on the radio; let the music filled up the silence. on the straight raod the scenery was pretty dry. little by little the maple leaves turned into yellow. then i just knew time passed and got little homesick. but actually it's the longest that i was togethr with my family.

in the deep

if i could, i will dye the world with deep blue.
it's a little triste but also a little cheerful.
it's the colour of enternal summer
that stands for freedom, youth, sweetness, and sourness....
though finally we're getting old like paper photos inevitably fading,
thousand times of bright moments won't dim.
'cause it's the memory--the flash of time,

Footnotes:
In the very beginning of every new year I am always ambitious to make new plans. Though most of plans are made in vain and I rarely reach the goal…. Well, it's just some kind of encouragement for me. Again, après, nous ne savons jamais..., but I believe if there are few parts in life that can be controlled, I should seize them.

For last year I thank my aunt, cousins, Flora, Zide, Kai, Zu, Chi, Chu, Bobo, and Ivy. My aunt never understands what I study, but she always supports me. Cousins share their feelings to me. Flora is my school sibling in high school, university, and right now in graduate school. I know her nothing. She doesn’t decide to show me her inner side; neither do I. But she does save me two times in the turning points. Zide is my teacher in university. He is busy, but he is always willing to give me some time and encourage me in writing. Kai is ex-bf; he loved me though it passed. Zu, Chi, and Chu are my teachers right now. I am not so good at presenting myself, but they give me the chance I need. Bobo is a new friend. I cherish the time we go swimming together; on the way to "frog" pool, I like the small talk from nonsense to art stuff…. Ivy was a teacher and now is my classmate. I like her consideration and enthusiasm though I have to turn down her interest in me.

This year I have to switch into high gear.
